GOP ANTI-TAX PHILOSOPHY AGAIN

By Kermit C. Moss

Mercy me, sakes alive, and carrot coffee!

Ole Stu Soffer is at it again, in a recent letter to the Pine Bluff Commercial. Along with many others in the GOP, he thinks that, whatever the problem, tax cuts are the answer. He needs to put his thinking cap on, if he has one. Or, perhaps Obama should give some thoughts to a thinking stimulus package. Further, our doctors might come up with a thinking tonic that would put a non-thinking or wrong-thinking man to right thinking. The name I would propose for it is the Soffer Tonic!

Let us review it again! Since the 1980's Reagan, George W. Bush and the GOP promoted and harped on the idea that government is the problem and tax cuts are the answer. They got the idea so ingrained in our people that for some time now, when a man or woman anywhere in the USA announces for office, the first thing he or she will say is “I promise not to raise taxes”, forgetting, apparently, that taxes are the life-blood of any government. So they cut taxes, and cut taxes, primarily on the wealthy, but did not, as promised, cut government spending. When they took over the government from Bill Clinton, there was a budget surplus, so large that if it had continued, would have paid off government debt by the end of 2009! Now the national debt is close to $11,000,000,000,000 and rising.

And, over the years, as the economy declined, "W." would say, “Just wait until my tax cuts kick in”. But things got worse and worse, and finally, with human greed at the forefront, the whole house of cards fell apart!

I agree that any tax evasion is indefensible, but so is the anti-government hogwash put out by the GOP and their supporters.

Lay on, MacDuff!
