A CLASSLESS SOCIETY?

Mercy me, sakes alive, and carrot
coffee!
Do we Americans have a classless society? Certainly not, despite all our lofty
pronouncements to the contrary!
For example, our
Declaration of Independence,
in a sweeping statement on human rights, says “We hold these truths to be
self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among those are life liberty and
the pursuit of happiness”! Then, in the
preamble to our constitution,
we say, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect
union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common
defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to
ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the
United States of America”. Wonderful words, and I don’t doubt their intent, but
it is obvious that they have not succeeded very well!
| Women: Over half of our people are women, but
out of 100 senators, only 17 are women. But many women indicate by their actions that they are strong believers in class. Coming from a family of wealth, they will not date, nor even read or listen to the words of man who came from a poor family. Then there are the social climbers, most of us have heard of women who married beneath their station, meaning class.

| Classes in America are endless: church, politics, wealth (especially so), race, education, looks, recreation, taxation, sports, gender, and you name it! |
